Ground-water recharge in Minnesota:
USGS Fact Sheet 2007-3002, by Delin, G.N. and Falteisek, J.D. This report, prepared in cooperation with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, summarizes findings from recent research papers, but is presented in a form for a broader audience.
Several new USGS publications on ground-water recharge in Minnesota determined:
- Ground-water recharge rates to surficial materials in Minnesota typically are about 20-25 percent of precipitation and vary regionally (see map below) based on climate, soils, and other data.
- High-quality, long-term, continuous hydrologic and climatic data are important to estimating recharge rates.
- Water-level measurement frequency is important in estimating recharge rates.
