Project Title: High Island Creek Sediment Study Objectives: Describe suspended-sediment concentrations (SSC) and bedload as a function of streamflow at USGS gage on High Island Creek. Calculate bedload transport, total sediment loads, and contribution of bedload to total sediment load. Progress during FY11: Sampling began and four samples of suspended-sediment concentrations (SSC) and bedload were collected. Two additional sites were added through funds provided by the Minnesota Department of Natural Recourses on Seven-Mile Creek, approximately 5 miles south of St. Peter. The agreement prescribes the collection of 16 samples of both SSC and bedload at High Island Creek and 1 sample at each of the sites on Seven-Mile Creek when streamflow is near bank full. Due to weather conditions the sampling was unable to be completed during FY11 and sampling continues into 2012. Statement of Work for FY12: Intensive sampling is needed to complete the remaining 12 samples at High Island Creek and 2 samples at Seven-Mile Creek. The sampling will continue into the spring 2012 high flow period and likely into early summer. |
